The topic may seem a bit indiscreet, yet it could reassure many. American women are far more unfaithful than they were 20 years ago. At least, that's what a study conducted by the highly reputable Social Research Organization, an American organization affiliated with the prestigious University of Chicago, reveals.

About twenty years ago, 10% of American women admitted to having cheated on their spouses. Today, that figure is 14.7%. With the increase in population and therefore the rise in extramarital affairs among women, this would represent a 40% increase.

Experts acknowledge that certain socio-professional factors are partly responsible for this trend. Women today are more active in the workforce than they were twenty years ago, and many have professional and financial situations independent of their husbands. This allows them, in particular, to fear divorce less. It's also hard not to focus on the explosion of dating sites over the last two decades, which has accelerated the process of getting dates. Social networks, which emerged in 2004, have also contributed to this trend.

Men remain the undisputed champions of infidelity. And according to the latest studies, more than one in five admit to having had an extramarital affair.
